Interesting Lesson from Ashutosh Rana for investing and life.

Namaste! We are starting the second half of the 2021. Today is the first day. I have come across an excerpt from an interview given by Ashutosh Rana. He had revealed interesting psychology of the moviegoers. The meaning of what he said was like this….

“People are looking for an Education from a Medium which is meant for Entertainment (movie) and Entertainment from a Media which is meant for education (school).”

Many people have an idea that a movie should give some message. They forget that purpose of the movie is to entertain you. The same way the purpose of Education is to give you a message and prepare you for the life – it can’t be done with entertainment all the time. Sometimes, it's possible. Most of the time, it's boring.

How does this relate to investing?

I have seen many investors are activity-loving investors. They want to do something or the other all the time with their investments. They want excitement from their investments and they also want to satisfy their Ego of going right every day. They are 1000% wrong.

Investment is the most BORING activity you can do under the sun. You can’t have entertainment and investment together. You may feel entertained at the time of doing it but later on, it becomes routine and boring.

Look at any marriages of your choice – there is a celebration and excitement at the time of marriage. But after the honeymoon the routine sets in. Whether it’s an arranged marriage or a love marriage – both become routine and boring. The cases of extramarital affairs are the proof of it.

The only advantage of the arranged marriage is that both the parties have no high dreams and they are getting together with a mindset of adjusting to each other. So, they have fewer pains in living with each other.

Investment done on TIPs is like love marriage. You have a lot of expectations at the time of buying it and you keep on looking at the price movements every minute. These kinds of investors run away from the market after booking losses.

Buffett kind of investors are cold-blooded investors. They do a lot of studies before they invest and once, they invest – they forget about the prices of the company. They focus on the company performance quarter over quarter or year over year. They enjoy their Boring attitude towards their investments. Since they enjoy this attitude – they make tons of money over a longer period of time.
