OMG - Oh My God Movie &
Small Investors
Dear Fellow
Travelers,
Namaste! In 2012,
the movie OMG was released and it made a good impact on various arguments of
the character Kanji Bhai. The movie was a remake of the south movie Gopala Gopala. The
movie was about a person fighting against the Action of God. Thanks to Corona
last year and this year – many people have taken protection due to ACTION of
GOD. Let me share some of the scenes of the movie to make it relevant to the
small investors.
Scene 1: -
Insurance Claim
Rejection: - Kanji Bhai's
shop was lost in the earthquake and the insurance company rejects his claim as this
was ACT of GOD. This is the real point on which the movie starts. His claim was
rejected as the Earth Quake is considered an Act of God.
Relevance for Investors:
-
Next time you buy
any policy….do not spend time shopping from various agents. You will be
better off if you take time out to understand the features of the policy V/s.
your actual need. Do not buy any policy just because it gives you a better
return, agent gives you some benefits. Just stick to your needs.
Scene 2: -
Finding out the Purpose:
- The main character Mr.Kanji comes on the road as he
lost his shop. His house is on the mortgage. He had a dream of making his
daughter a Pilot and his son a Cricketer. He realizes that he can’t do anything
if he does not have a business. So, he has a very strong emotional purpose. He
was in the situation of Do or Die. This strong purpose was the real motivation
for him to fight.
Relevance for
Investors: -
We always say to the
budding investors - please find out WHY you want to invest before you ask me
WHERE to invest. Over the years, I have seen that investors with a desire to
earn some extra return goes out of the market in a year or two as they have not
got their real emotional purpose for investments.
Scene 3: -
Finding out the
Advocate: - He moves from
pillar to post to find out the advocate who can help him sue GOD. He was
insulted/laughed at but he kept on till he found Hanif Bhai. When he meets
the Hanif Bhai, he asks only one question - will you fight my case against GOD?
Hanif Bhai says he can’t fight his case but he can prepare the paper works.
Knowing Hanif bhai’s background, he agrees immediately. (He did not ask whether
he will win the case for him / how much he will charge?).
Relevance for
Investors: -
Find out your personal
investment consultant. He can be the best help in meeting your investment
goals. Spend time in understanding his style, vision, and background. How many
of you will waste time bargaining with a Doctor, when you have chest pain?
Scene 4: -
Family Departure: - His wife and kids left him but he still did not
change his mind to fight against GOD.
Relevance for
Investors: -
You can’t have a
cake and eat it, too. You have to make your choice. If you love regular income.
Bank FD is the Best but if you want to make big money, you need to forgo the
comfort of regular income. Are you ready?
Scene 5: -
God’s Help: - Looking at Kanji’s willpower, God himself comes to
help him.
Relevance for
Investors: -
They say if your
mind can decide and your heart can believe. Nobody can stop you. Even God has
to come to your help. So, work on your willpower when you invest.
Scene 6: -
Doing Proper Homework: - He reads all the religious books, as per his consultant’s advice, before
his final hearing in the court. Just see he never had a habit of reading. He
does not even like to read. But his determination to fight was so important
that he reads and remembers them.
Relevance for
Investors: -
You need to develop
the habits of doing things you do not like / you are not comfortable doing them,
then and then only you will get what you really want. You need to develop the nerve of steel to deal with the up and down in the market if you really want
to become a successful investor.
Final Scene: -
He wins and Godman says
to him. You are dealing
with God Fearing people and not with God Loving people. So, our business will
never get closed.
Relevance for
Investors: -
Are you an investment
loving investor or an investment-fearing investor? If you are approaching investments from fear, you will fall for greed also and you will not be able to stay
for a longer time. But if you love investment, you will love the process/ the
hard work which goes into investing and you will be ready to accept the results
also. (because you knew the results when you invested !!)
What people missed?
The reality of the Kanji
Bhai is missed by 99% of the people who would have watched the movie.
Kanji Bhai himself was
a cheater. He was selling normal water as Ganga Jal and Broken Idol of the God
by sticking it. He was dishonest as a
business person.
When the insurance company denied the payment because it was Act of God, he
got angry. He decided to fight and ultimately, he won also. But in the process –
he lost his family support / people were after him to kill him and he spent a lot
of sleepless nights. If you see with open eyes – The act of God is a normal clause
everywhere in the insurance industry. So, here also he was wrong and not the insurance
company.
He went against all the BABAs for their cheating. He could win over their
dishonesty because he himself was dishonest. Diamond cuts the diamond.
What Next?
Life and investments are in Grey Shades. There isn’t
100% white or 100% black. Good and Bad companies move only and only when someone
rides the counter. Those who are not ready to think Holistically – will miss
the opportunities of life.
Make your choice.
Have a Happy Week Ahead.
