4 master steps of Sufism - apply them in your life and investments for success

Dear Fellow Travellers,

Namaste! I keep on learning new approaches and keep on sharing with my readers. In the past, we have shared our learning from Lord Krishna / Mahavir / Buddha. Today we are taking Sufism. When a person starts following Sufism, he is taught about the 4 steps. He is supposed to follow them towards his journey to his own God.

Let me deal with each of them with respect to life and investment success.

 

1.  Tarikat: - Tarikat means Technique. When you start any new things, you must know the proper technique of doing it / you must learn it from proper source / you must apply it with underlying spirit.  

Tarikat includes gaining Knowledge / Skills / Attitude and Habits for success in investments. If you have not gained mastery in the above 4 areas – your ACTION will not be proper. Modern management calls it Success Pentagon.

Lord Krishna also talks about the 5 factors in Gita chapter 18 in slok number 13/14 – as per him the 5 factors are – Vastu / Person / Resources / Ability to use resources and Fate.

The point is you must learn TARIKAT in detail. In practice, I have observed two challenges with NORMAL people when they approach the TARIKAT.

a.  They fall in love with the Technique. Many times, they get the obsession with their technique. You check the long religious fight history worldwide and you will find that it was done to prove their technique is the best.
In the field of investments – I have observed that there are die-hard followers of Technical / Fundamentals / Tips based / Futures / Mutual Funds / IPOs and things like that. They will go to any extent to prove that their method is correct for wealth creation. This is a very unhealthy attitude.

b.  They make it a ritual. Have you seen many guys keep on doing their MALA / Prayers and Pooja out of just ritual and not out of any objective? The same way many investors come to the market. They don’t invest their time and money to master all the 4 steps TARIKAT mentioned above. They always do TIME PASS in the market without any achievement in the end. Since they are doing TIME PASS, they will waste time listening to Media / talking to friends, and trying for some information and things like that. They never make big money in their life.

 

Since you are doing some or the other things in TARIKAT – this step has your EGO in it.

 

2.   Shariat: - This is a second step. Once you have mastered the TARIKAT – you will automatically go into Shariat. Shariat means to be one with your investments or God. You would have observed while driving a car that when you mastered the driving – you drive the car but you are not only driving the car. You are talking to your fellow travelers, talking on mobile or singing or doing many things. Here you can do all the things because your subconscious mind has taken over the driving part.

 

If you reach this step and remain there without your effort – you have mastered the first step of TARIKAT properly.

 

3.   Marifat: - Once you reach the SHARIAT step – sometimes you will start getting glimpses of the market movements or your God. You will keep on getting some or the other indication ahead of the event taking place. You will not need any technique or information. It will happen on its own.

In the movie Enter The Dragon – Bruce Lee talks about the BEST TECHNIQUE to fight the opponent is to have NO TECHNIQUE at all. This is the stage when you float in the market without any technique and you still hit the bull’s eye.

If you are in the market for a long time, if you assume that you know the market very well and if you are not getting any glimpses of the market events in advance – you have not reached the MARIFAT stage.

4.   HAQIKAT: - HAQ means TRUTH in URDU. The famous SUFI Mansoor Al Hallaj was killed because he claimed, “Anal Al Haq” It means “I am the TRUTH” in 922 Ad.

This is the last step. It means now you don’t know the TRUTH – you became the TRUTH. You don’t know about the market. You are the MARKET. You don’t know about investing. You are the investing.

If you reach this step – it means you have reached your goal. Here your success will lead to happiness for you and for your community by default.

 

What are the practical challenges for normal investors?

As mentioned above – they are not ready to invest in the first step of TARIKAT. They think it’s a waste of time. If at all they learn – then become FANATIC about their technique and waste time in talking or boasting about their favourite technique.

Observe your behaviour with respect to the above 4 steps. If you look at them with 100% honesty – you will come to know about your success or failure instantly.
