Mulla said “I Will Marry to my Sister in Law?”

Greetings from Hitesh! Thanks for your overwhelming response to my last article - How Belief, Disbelief and Trust Affect Your Life and Investmetns? sent on 7^th Sep., 2014. All friends have liked the difference between the three important words they use in their daily life. Thanks again for your generous words of appreciations.

I have come across a beautiful short story of Mulla Naseeruddin. Mulla’s wife died and his friend asked him whom will you marry now?

Mulla said : “I Will Marry to my Sister in Law?”

Friend asked: Why?

Mulla replied – “I do not want to change my Mother in Law!!”

How Normal People Change?

In the last 15 days –two important events took place. Ganesh Chaturthy and Paryushan Maha Parva.

Media guys said that this time number of people who brought GANPATI in their home had increased by 50% compared to the last year!! The most interesting aspect this time was – non Hindu guys who brought GANPATI had increased more than 100%!!

Normally, during Paryushan – Atthai as it is known in Jain parlance – fasting of 8 days - is the main thing. But this time in Mumbai – it has been observed that many people have done a month long fasting – known as MAS KHAMAN in Jain parlance.

For the person with BELIEF – these are great things to do. It boosts the Ego and brings much needed Social Recognition very easily. But does it bring more TRUST within? I am not sure.

How this behavior affects the Investments Performance?

Small investors when they come to invest – they change their investment vehicles from Stocks to Mutual Funds to SIP to Derivatives to Bank Fixed Deposits to Insurance Policies to Pension Plans to Postal Saving Schemes to Properties to Gold and Silver to Antiques!!! They even change their brokers / consultants / banks / demat accounts etc.

But like our Mulla – they want to keep their Mother in Law  (read GREED AND FEAR) as the same!! They are not ready to go beyond them!!

Whatever they do is either out of greed or out of fear………persons with TRUST go beyond them!!

What Mr.Nassim Taleb says?

 

In His Book, The Bed of Procrustes, Mr. Taleb’s addresses the modern day ways in which “we humans, facing limits of knowledge, and things we do not observe, the unseen and the unknown, resolve the tension by squeezing life and the world into crisp commoditized ideas, reductive categories, specific vocabularies, and prepackaged narratives, which, on the occasion, has explosive consequences.”

My Personal Call:-

Dale Carnegie in his book “How To Win Friends and Influence People” had said – “A person convinced against his will is of the same opinion still”

This applies to you also!! Do not try to convince yourself against your will, it will not take you very far in your life and your investments. Go within and find your true calling.
