Investment Lesson from Movie ARTICLE 375 – how a SENIOR and JUNIOR investor operates in the market?

Greetings from Hitesh! There is TEJI in BOLLYWOOD. One movie after another is coming with a different shade and for different audiences. Article 375 is a movie for a class who is interested in CRIME THRILLERS. The movie is about two legal professionals - A senior advocate and a Junior advocate (his junior in the past). What impressed me the way senior guy approached the case and LOST. But it had tons of learning for the rookie investors and his LADY LAWYER.
I will deal with the situations and learning.
1. Taking up the CASE: - Knowing his image the wife of alleged rapist approaches him for the case of his husband and says Money is not an issue. He takes the papers and studies them in details before giving his consent to fight the case. He goes against his wife’s advice of not fighting this kind of case.
The investor will wait for the right opportunity and when they come – they study them in details. Once they are convinced about the potential for the opportunity – they go ahead and invest without worrying about MARKET or PRICE movements in the short term.
2. Meeting the ALLEGED RAPIST: - He meets his client in jail and asks him to open up with the FACTS. He knew from the day one that his client has not done any RAPE but during the course of the court proceedings, he did not reveal till he was forced. This way he was trying to save the marriage of his client.
Seasoned guys will have the FACTS and they will work on the facts and only facts. Then they study the facts for their truthfulness. This increases their conviction in their investment idea and they go for it wholeheartedly.
3. Presenting the FACTS: - He presents the FACTS – one after another and his opposite LADY LAWYER is completely taken by surprise. The way he dealt with the police / medical guy /brother of the girl who was allegedly rape/ girl who was allegedly raped by telling that he has a video of their private moments in the VAN. Everywhere the eye for the finer details can be observed. This comes with role clarity only.
Seasoned guys will present the facts to his team or to himself one after another. Most seasoned investors I know write a detailed note in their investment diary – why they are investing in XYZ company? This note is nothing but their own view from the facts and this one page remains their support when the prices go down suddenly or something unexpected happens. They check their facts with the events and decide the future course based on the same.
4. Losing the CASE: - This is the masterpiece. In spite of proving that this was a normal SEX relationship and the lady claiming to have raped is taking some revenge – the court gives a verdict in the favor of his lady assistance. He goes to his client and tells him that he will go to HIGH COURT to get him released and goes home relaxed.
The LADY LAWYER gets the shock of her life and lot of guilt feelings for INJUSTICE done to the guy who had not done RAPE when she was told by her client that the opposite lawyer was right.
In the evening there was a DINNER PARTY and LADY LAWYER TELLS to the SENIOR guy that – she feels that JUSTICE is not done. The SENIOR LAWYER says the real purpose of the fight and it is worth a crore – “We are in the business of LAW and not in the business of Justice”.

All seasoned investor invests more and more when they are convinced with their facts. They don’t worry about the prices going down temporarily. Buffett invested in AMERICAN EXPRESS in 1969 and GOLDMAN in 2008 when everybody was panicked.
The seasoned investor knows that they are not in the investment business for RETURNS. They are in the business of BUSINESS OWNERSHIP. This separates them from ROOKIE investors.
What NEXT?
Knowing your ROLE as an investor is the most important step – even before you invest a single rupee. The guys who are complaining about MANDI or losses are the guys who in the first place was not very sure about their ROLE.
Clarity of ROLE is the basic step for all investors in their journey to wealth creations. When the ROLE is clear – money is not a problem. In the movie - the wife of allegedly RAPIST told the lawyer – money is not a problem just make sure he comes out. The lawyer was also clear about his role. The lady lawyer was taken for a ride by her client as she was not having role clarity in the first place.
