Successful Investment Journey in Just Two Words – Good Prices to Good Atmosphere.

Greeting from Hitesh! It has been a practice in a new generation to find our short cuts and formulae for success. When they know there are short cuts – they get motivated to do that fast. In fact, Iphone and other phones have also started giving shorts cuts. A young client of mine asked – “Sirjee – can you give me some short cuts to Investment success?” I replied – YES. I am just sharing for benefits of other guys. Hope it may be useful to you.

According to me “Successful investment is a journey from Good Prices to Good Atmosphere”. Let me elaborate.

Good Prices:-

Most of you would agree that you will Invest when prices are low / reasonable. Am I right? That is the reason – BIG BAZAAR started “SABSE SASTE 5 DAYS” before Ecommerce Company came into existence. It got the tremendous success in those days.

Now a day we have lot many online companies, which are giving you everything, you want at a Discount or lower prices and we all are buying from them. Am I right?

Normally, they offer you discounts or special offer during NAVRATRI / DIWALI/ CHRISTMAS / GANEHS CHATURTHY and some such auspicious period. So, you have the GOOD PRICES and GOOD ATMOSPHERE TOGETHER. So, you are mentally conditioned to think about both of them together.

However, when you come to SHARE MARKET – this equation does not work. In share market only one factor is good and other has to be Normal or Below Normal i.e. when prices are low or reasonable – you will find MARKET is not good and if market is good – you will find prices would have sky rocketed.

So, what is the formula for Success in Investment?

Buy when prices are low. Then Sleep as long as market becomes positive. If you can’t sleep till market becomes positive – you will lose the opportunity to multiply your money or you will end up making below normal returns or losses.

What is the CATCH here?

Many would say that we are holding from long time but our portfolios are not moving at all. In fact, they have gone down. I am sure you would have experienced these at some or the other time.

My experience tells me following.

1.   You would have bought these shares during Good Atmosphere of 1992/1994/1997/1999/2007 at high prices.

2.   You would not have added to the shares, which were moving, in your portfolio. This is the most common mistake of common investors. Let me deal with this point. E.g. Rakesh has investment in around 35 companies bought at a GOOD PRICES. But still 4 companies only made him what he is today. The secret – he kept on investing in them irrespective of the performance of overall portfolio. Most guys get depressed looking at the overall portfolio and they shun investment in the moving company also. That’s why they remain NORMAL. So, the revised formula is as under.

1.   Invest when market is depressed.

2.   Watch which companies are moving. Go on adding on them. Do not worry for overall portfolio performance.

3.   When Market becomes HAPPY – you will see the MAGIC in your overall portfolio. Till that time you should SLEEP.

Most of the guys would say this is SIMPLE. My experiences tell me that – most guys are not able to follow SIMPLE ways!!
