How to use STEVE JOB’s – REALITY DISTORTION FIELD Concept in one’s life?

Dear Fellow Travelers,

Namaste! The beauty of the USA is they have A for Apple also and A to Z of Amazon also. When you look at the big corporation – the thought process to create them is the root for their success. In Western World – Steve Jobs is famous for his REALITY DISTORTION FIELD – a technique he used while making a MAC or other products. Let us understand the same in detail.

REALITY DISTORTION FIELD( RDF): -

The RDF was said by Andy Hertzfeld to be Steve Jobs' ability to convince himself, and others around him, to believe almost anything with a mix of Charm, Charisma, Bravado, Hyperbole, Marketing, Appeasement, and Persistence.

It was said to distort his co-workers' sense of proportion and scales of difficulties and to make them believe that whatever impossible task he had at hand was possible. Jobs could also use the reality distortion field to appropriate others' ideas as his own, sometimes proposing an idea back to its originator, only a week after dismissing it.

What is the Indian Scenario?

RDF may be a new term for the USA people. For Indians - we have a famous term – SHAIKHCHALLI. There would be hardly any person who would not have listened to his story in India. Everybody is aware of how he created his mental picture of becoming a millionaire while carrying a small pot of milk on his head.

There is another very famous person in Indian History who had used RDF while he was King of Delhi. His name was Muhammad bin Tughluq. He was famous for changing the capital of India at that time from DELHI to DOLATABAD.

So, Indian know about RDF from both the above personalities way ahead of STEVE JOB or the USA people.

Let us look at the role of RDF in Normal India’s Life: -

1.   Normal investor wants to make tons of money without taking the pain to master the investment process and without taking much risk.

2.   Normal student wants to score the top without giving the required effort.

3.   Normal businessman wants to be Mukesh Bhai, without creating a team like him or thinking like him.

4.   Normal job goers want the best of the salary increase and top post without working in the organization.

5.   Normal Religious person wants – MOKSHA or NIRVANA or KAIVAL GYAN by reading and reciting what had been written in the books. They want moksha sleeping in the AC bedroom, doing normal business, and living a happy family life.

How to apply RDF in practical life?

India has a very long history and thanks to our RISHIS what we call modern concepts of management have been known to us from the age-old. Since they are AGE old in our culture – we have missed the technique to apply that concept in our life.

The basic idea behind RDF is – If you want to predict the FUTURE, invent it. Steve Jobs did the same. He focused RDF on the basics to start with. Let me share the best example of how STEVE used the same.

During the development of the MACINTOSH computer in 1984, Jobs asked Larry Kenyon, an engineer, to reduce the Mac BOOT TIME by 10 seconds. When Kenyon replied that it wasn't possible to reduce the time, Jobs asked him, "If it would save a person’s life, could you find a way to shave 10 seconds off the boot time?" Kenyon said that he could. Jobs went to a whiteboard and pointed out that if 5 million people wasted an additional 10 seconds booting the computer, the sum time of all users would be equivalent to 100 human lifetimes every year. A few weeks later Kenyon returned with a rewritten code that booted 28 seconds faster than before.

See the impact of RDF when used at the basic levels. If you are not using RDF at the basic levels to start with – you will finish your life in DREAMS only. The fun is all the dreams will remain dreams only. When you have tons of Unfulfilled DREAMS at the end of your life – you will be born again without fail. So, you will not come out from the BIRTH and DEATH Cycle.

How to apply RDF if you are an investor?

Say you have just Rs.10000 and you want to become BUFFETT. This is the best example of RDF. If you really want to do RDF in investing – think about picking up the right company first. If you have the right company to start with – it can multiply 100 times to 2000 times also. The problem is with the PAIN to master the right investing process and the unwillingness to keep the PATIENCE after investing. Steve Job took immense pain and even today his name is BAD as an employer.

The problem is not with RDF. The problem is with the process of normal investors. He starts with Options / Futures and other esoteric things which he doesn’t fully understand.

What NEXT?

Remember the one-line message – “the best way to predict the future is to invent it.” All your routine actions will add up and make your future. So, focus on your routine rather than the results.

We have just started the New Year. I wish all my readers all the best in their efforts to invent their choicest future.
