To Invest or Not To Invest In This Market - The Eternal Dilemma of Investors
Greetings from Hitesh! Hope you are enjoying Sunday morning with your family. Many investors who did not follow me in 2009 and 2011 – are asking me – to invest or not to invest. At 8500 Sensex they had the same question in 2009. At 17500 in 2011 they had the same question. At 27000 now, they have the same question. Market has changed – but their question is the same.
This reminds me of Hamlet (Year 1602) and his famous lines –
HAMLET:-
To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;

4500 years before HAMLET, Arjun had the same question – to fight or not to fight in Mahabharat. If you study your life till now – you would also have come across situations where you had this Dilemma. In that sense, this is an age old problem and if you have the same dilemma – you have my empathy with you.
The Driving Force Behind – To Do Or Not To Do:-
Fear of Success and Fear of Failure – both are driving forces behind your question. Fear of Failure is logical and expected. But, Fear of Success – To Die or To Sleep? Let me deal with Fear of Success. For that we need to look into History.
So, let us peep into The Long History of Human Evolution:-
If you go back to the history before 100 years – there was a common thread – less production and more people. Due to lack of technology – it was not possible to produce resources at mass levels. So, living with frugality or poverty was the in-thing rather then the exception.
The sages of the past were wise and they had incorporated– Love / Sacrifice / Donations / Stewardship / Thrift / Joint Family System as a part of Religion.
In fact, in Gujarti there is a very famous proverb -
કડ, વકડ નો ત્રેવડ ત્રિજો ભાઈ
(Kad, vakad and trewad are three brothers)

Stewardship, Resourcefulness and Thrift are three brothers.
The proverb lays emphasis on being able to use minimum resources in a best way, saving for the future and being diligent in spending money.
If you become extremely successful when most of the guys are not even able to eat two meals – it used to lead to guilt and feeling of doing something wrong. This was the origin of Fear of Success.
In the current time – you need to concentrate on Pleasures of Success.
Focus on Opportunities and Change Your Destiny:-
Once you deal with the above fears – you come to ground Zero. You are managing your fears now. But still you are at Zero. You are not Walking / Running or Flying. To do that you need to focus on Opportunities. When you focus on Opportunities,  you can change your Destiny. And to help you do that I am quoting following Shayari:-
तकदीरें बदल जाती हैं, जब ज़िन्दगी का कोई मकसद हो;
वर्ना ज़िन्दगी कट ही जाती है तकदीर को इल्ज़ाम देते देते!
If you can find the purpose in your life / investments or anything you always wanted to do – you will be able to do that without the eternal question – To Do or Not to Do.
What is Our Call on Market?
I would like to quote another Shayari……
Jindagi Ki Asli Udaan Baki Hey Abhi,
Jindagi Ke Kayi Imtehaan Baki Hey Abhi,
Abhi to Naapi Hey Mutthi Bhar Zamin,
Aage To Saara Asmaan Baki Hey Abhi.

Market has just started moving up. It has a long way to go. Sensex will surely touch 35000-45000. So, I am giving you another strong reason for investing now.
