You can never understand one language until you understand at least two

Dear Fellow Travellers,

Namaste! Our last post was on the attitude for investing and success in general. This post is also about the attitude of normal people towards life in general. Some are so fanatic about their beliefs in various areas that they end up fighting with the other since they are not ready to understand the opposite person’s view.

The title of the post is a sentence from the English singer and songwriter Geoffrey Williams. Being an artist – this is his inner feelings when he wanted to get connected with his audiences.

I was reading one George Gurdjieff story. He was moving in the jungle. He came across the group of ADIVASI. They used to go to work in the morning and they used to come in the evening. Men and Women both used to go. He inquired how they keep their kids in the jungle. They showed him that they keep all the kids and draw one circle around them. They tell them that they will not be able to come out of this circle till their parents came. The small kids who normally do not remain in one place for long used to remain in the circle without going out of it. They just believed in the same!!

How this is related to the normal person?

1.   He is told that your RELIGION is the best and your GOD is the best. Never believe in other Religions and other GODS. See the root cause of fighting between different religions. I have met the most qualified and rich people of all religions. But when it comes to religions – very few have an open mind to see the other’s point of view.

2.   Normal investors are told – investment is difficult and you should leave it to the Professionals. See the results – they stopped trying only. They are behaving like Adivasi kid.

3.   After education – one must do the job and go up gradually in life. See the problems of job creation the world over. There is a lot of unemployment. Had the kids been taught about doing some business or doing some start-up – the burden on the government and economies of the world would have been lesser. Today tons of money is being given FREE to support JOBLESS people.

4. I can list many such issues in the area of marriage/relationships/behaviour. The point is – that most people are not ready to ask the questions – WHY or WHY NOT?

How your success and growth is hindered because of your beliefs?

There are some common denominators of success in any area of your life, investments, and relationships. Since my area is investing – I will stick to that only.

When you invest – you are dealing with the most dynamic phenomenon called the market. It can move up and down based on a lot of factors. However, the underlining business may not get affected or change that fast. Reliance's price can move up by 20% or down by 20% but in a given day Reliance cannot increase its production or sales by 20%. It takes its own time. When it stated JIO in 2011, it took 7 years to start a commercial application in 2017. So, things don’t move fast as the prices move.

Normal investors who follow only one language – PRICE, they fail to understand or are not ready to understand the language of Business Processes. Thanks to their one side focus – they feel frustrated and get out of the market as a failure. They end up investing money in some sub-standard options.

What NEXT?

You must explore the other options before you say that your chosen option is the best. If you don’t do this exercise with an open mind – you will end up living a life of compromise.
