They
say “Repetition is Mother of Skill” but I have observed, “Repetition
is Mother of Illusion”.
Greetings from Hitesh! Our last post of
Vinod Khanna won us many messages of appreciations. Thanks for the same. I
thank each reader for being my regular reader. From the AGE old it has been
said REPETITION is the MOTHER OF SKILL. Many great guys have supported this
saying. But I have observed in practice – it is Mother of ILLUSION. Let us see
how it affects your life and investment behaviour.
Let us see some of the most repeated sentences in our day today
life.
Honesty is the Best Policy / Do good and
good will happen with you / Every human is a form of God / World is Maya
(illusion) / Growth is life / Without God’s will nothing can happen.
You can add as many such sentences as you
can. If REPETITION can make the difference – don’t you think India would have
been number one in HONESTY index? In stead, we are top in corruption index, in
spite of repeating above sentences.
Now
look at some behaviours:-
1.
Look at your daily
routine. You have been following that everyday. How much growth has come in
your life?
2. You keep on Nagging to your husband / wife
or kid for various reasons – has any change came in their life?
3.
You keep on repeating
some religious rituals / chanting mantra or doing some pooja – have you met
your GOD?
4.
You would have seen
STUDENTS mugging up the answers – have they become toppers?
I am sure REPETITION in the above case has
got you ZERO or NEGATIVE results.
One of the great poet and realized soul of
GUJARAT AKHO has said this beautifully.
TILAK KARTA TREPAN THAYA, JAP MALA NA NAKA GAYA,
TIRATH FARI FARI TAHKYA CHARAN, TOY NA PAHOCHYU
HARI SHARAN,
KATHA SUNI SUNI FUTYA KAN, AKHA TOY NA AVYU
BHAHM GYAN.
(MEANING – you completed 53 years by doing
TILAK / the beads of JAP MALA has broken, your leg has got tired by travelling
to religious places, your ears have gone deaf by listening to stories of god,
still you did not get GOD).
In short, repetition helps you to be hypocrite.
What
we need is UNDERSTANDING and not REPETITION?
I have always given stress on understanding
over repetition. Once you understand anything – you do not repeat.
1. If you hold the KNIFE from BLADE and you got
hurt – will you hold it from BLADE side next time?
2. Look at your CHILD – if he touches the
BURNING LAMP and get BURNT – will he ever go near to it next time?
3. Vinod Khanna lost 4 nearest and dearest
people in 6 months time and he started thinking about his DEATH and he took
Sanyas.
4. Swami Ramkrishna gave DARSHAN of GOD to
NARENDRA and he became VIVEKANANDA!!
Deep down we know – if we understand – we
will not be able to REPEAT our mistakes. So, we create the illusion of
understanding by repeating!!
Why
REPETITION happens?
Deep down most of the guys are EMPTY within.
Repetition gives them the feeling of DOING something or busyness / feeling of
SELF WORTH (though FALSE) / feeling of being loved and being needed. This keeps
them going life after life.
How
WARREN BUFFET deals with this?
He understands the CYCLICAL NATURE of market
and company performances. That’s why he invests and sleeps for years. He knows
that it is difficult to find too many good stocks in a lifetime. So, once he
finds the good stocks – he is not in a hurry to sell. In fact, he wants to ADD
it more and more. He wants to give time to the STOCKS while he spends time in
reading newspapers and playing golf.
He understands that REPETITION is injurious
to wealth creation.
What
is our ADVISE to our CLIENTS?
Knowing HUMAN nature of REPETITION – we tell
our clients to be with us for at least 3 years at the time of joining only.
What
NEXT?
If you have been REPEATING one style of
investments or media consultant over and over again – it’s a time that you be
with HITESH PARIKH for at least 3 years and see what happens.
I know I can give you only ARGUMENTS to be
with me, and not understanding to be with me.
