How your share of Income / Success is determined in life and investments?

Dear Fellow Travelers,

Namaste! The most often observed question is – I am doing my best / I am giving my 100% still I am not getting success and others are putting fewer efforts and making tons of money and success. This is the most easily visible phenomenon in the stock market.

Let me share a beautiful story.

Two friends went on a religious journey. They reached to the temple and were resting. They were chit-chatting about their journey and the importance of the temple. Another person came and joined them. Now, they three were chatting. It was dinner time and both the friends took out their good. One had 3 chapatis and another had 5. They were three. So, how to divide? The third person gave a solution – let us divide each of the roti into 3 parts and share one part with each of us. So, they made 24 parts from 8 chapatis and each one had 8 parts. They slept.

In the morning the third person decided to leave and before leaving he gave 8 gold coins to two friends. Asked them to share 4 each with them.

The friend with the 3 chapatis said – I can’t take 4. Since I had 3 chapatis – I will take 3 and you had 5 chapatis you take 5. The other friends said we will have 4 each only.

Since they could not decide they went to PUJARI of the temple and asked for the solution. Pujari was also in the puzzle as this fighting was to give the best to each other. He personally liked the idea of 3 and 5 distribution. Still, he said – I will pray to GOD and ask him about the right distribution.

What was the God’s Answer?

God came in the dream of the Pujari and said give 1 coin to the 3 chapati friend and 7 coins to 5 chapati friends. Now, the Pujari was also puzzled by this. He asked the reason.

God said – 3 chapati fellows had 9 parts. He consumed 8 parts and gave 1 part to the third person. 5 chapati fellows had 15 parts. He consumed 8 parts and gave 7 parts to the third person.

The difference in chapati was just 2 chapatis – one had 3 and another had 5. But the 5 chapatis fellow got 6 more gold coins than the 3 chapati guy. This is the stock market way of working. You hold the company for 3 years and another hold it for 5 years. The results can be very surprising.

How you invest makes the difference?

Say two friends start investing at the age of 25. When they reach 50, one may be way ahead of another friend in terms of money depending on their style of investments and their vehicle of investments. Now, it is normal to complain about the system/luck or partiality by looking at the other guy’s tons of money.

But you can’t cheat the existence. It is impartial and indifferent. It gives you back what you give it.

Do you have complaints about less success or less money than the other friend or your neighbour?

The above story will give you food for thought. The above story is a very simplified version. In reality – the following factors also add to the results – your knowledge/skills/attitude/habits and your inner purpose. Given the same kind of knowledge/skills/attitude and habits – sometimes the inner purpose makes a major difference in the life of people. So, all the factors are important but they are not equally important in all the situations.
