Why Obvious Investment Ideas Shared by TOP ANALYSTS or EXPERTS leads to Pain at the end?

Today we are going to deal with the genuine issue of the NORMAL investors and why they end up making losses in spite, of following EXPERTS or TOP ANALYSTS?

Read all the political experts / analysts and astrologers who tried to predict the outcome of the results. Most of them was dealing with the two obvious choice only – BJP or Congress. Those who were predicting BJP may say that BJP got the highest number of seats and that way they were right. Those who were predicting CONGRESS may say that Congress played a master stroke by giving support to Mr.Kumarswamy and that way congress is also a winner.

The FACT is Mr.KUMARSWAMY will become the CM!! Nobody was able to see this possibility and they all are wrong.

What happens when you go for predicting the MACROS?

Mr.Nassim Taleb in his Book, The Bed of Procrustes, shared the reason of the same in his own style.

Mr. Taleb addresses the modern day ways in which “We humans, facing limits of knowledge ( so, we focus on the obvious players), and things we do not observe (the underline MOTIVE of the players like BJP,Congress or JDs), the unseen and the unknown (everybody was seeing KUMARSWAMY as king maker and not at KING), resolve the tension by squeezing life and the world into crisp commoditized ideas (talking about OBVIOUS things like BJP or CONGRESS), reductive categories, specific vocabularies, and prepackaged narratives, which, on the occasion, has explosive consequences.( same way some guys talk about only MUTUAL funds and SIP whenever they talk about investments).”

In short, Taleb says without proper knowledge whatever you predict is not going to help you in a material way. This is one of the reason why we don’t make election predictions as it is difficult to get the exact details about all the major participants.

How does this apply to investment area?

They pick up their investment randomly - Rakesh or any BIG investor is buying XYZ company / some big mutual funds are holding this stocks / the company is available at low P/E compared to PEERS / All my friends or relatives are doing investments in this company or this way only / this idea is recommended by leading analyst on business channel / All experts are saying market will not come down.

If you have said any of the dialogue while doing investments – I am sure you must be looking for some new idea to cover your losses.

Where to focus while investing?

Investment is 90% about SELF and 10% about your fundamentals / technical and all other N number of methods which may be followed by investors world over.

The first step is to understand yourself in as much details as you can.
